Tshwane Brings the Activation Journey Home — Now the Real Work Begins

The NutriTrack activation rollout officially reached its final milestone on 14 September 2026, with a successful Tshwane activation hosted by Laezonia Primary School.

It was a fitting conclusion to an incredible journey, with 100% attendance from the participating centres and the full Soul Food Gauteng team present to support the day.

A Special Place to Finish the Journey

Laezonia Primary School provided a meaningful setting for the final activation. The school is also home to one of the impressive vegetable gardens established through Soul Food’s former Soul Seed project — a reminder that while projects may evolve, the seeds of earlier interventions can continue creating value within our communities.

The enthusiasm and engagement from the participating centres reflected what we have witnessed throughout the NutriTrack rollout: centres are not simply recipients of the programme; they are becoming active partners in understanding and improving child nutrition outcomes.

Welcoming Nkosana Bartman to the Field Team

The activation also provided an opportunity to welcome Nkosana Bartman, who joins NutriTrack as the replacement fieldworker following Humbulani’s departure.

Nkosana will support implementation across Tshwane and East Rand, working directly with participating centres as the project moves into baseline assessments, consent administration and ongoing monitoring.

We wish him well as he takes on this important responsibility and becomes part of the NutriTrack journey.

From Activation to Implementation

With Tshwane complete, all participating NutriTrack areas are now activated.

What began months ago as planning, stakeholder engagement and preparation has travelled through Steelpoort, the Northern Cape, Sedibeng, Cape Town, George, Gqeberha, East Rand and finally Tshwane.

This achievement belongs to an exceptional joint rollout team from the University of Pretoria and Soul Food, supported at every stage by our branch teams, fieldworkers, participating centres and partners.

But completing the activations is not the finish line.

Baseline assessments are underway, participant consent processes are underway, and appointments with participating ECD centres are being scheduled. The focus now shifts from preparing the project to generating the evidence that NutriTrack was designed to deliver.

The activation chapter closes with tremendous momentum — and the implementation chapter begins.

NutriTrack is now full steam ahead.
