East Rand Activated: One More Step Towards the Finish Line

“From awareness to action — equipping our centres to better understand, monitor and support the nutritional wellbeing of every child.”

The NutriTrack journey continued in Gauteng with a successful East Rand Stakeholder Activation on 8 September 2026, hosted at the Kwa-Thema Family Skills Centre and led on the ground by our East Rand Branch Manager, Daniel.

The activation brought together our participating ECD centres for an engaging session focused on understanding NutriTrack and preparing for implementation. A highlight of the day was the practical anthropometric measurement demonstration, where participants had the opportunity to engage directly with the measurement process and build confidence for the work that will follow in their centres.

Support Beyond the Pilot

What made the East Rand activation particularly encouraging was the presence of local ECD centres that are not currently part of the NutriTrack pilot, but came out to show moral support to their colleagues.

Their presence reflects something bigger than the pilot itself: a growing community interest in strengthening child nutrition and understanding how better monitoring can help us respond more effectively to the needs of children.

Our participating centres showed great enthusiasm, asked questions and embraced the responsibility that comes with being part of this important pilot.

One Soul Food Team

The activation was also strongly supported by the entire Soul Food Support Office team, demonstrating that NutriTrack is not the responsibility of one department or fieldworker, but an organisational commitment to moving from simply providing nutrition to better understanding its impact.

A special thank you goes to the University of Pretoria team for once again leading the technical engagement and practical demonstrations, and to the UP administrative team working quietly behind the scenes to coordinate arrangements, including catering and the many details that help make each activation possible.

We also recognise Daniel our branch manager for bringing the centres together and creating a welcoming environment for this important next step.

One Final Activation to Go

From Steelpoort to the Northern Cape, Sedibeng, Cape Town, George, Gqeberha and now East Rand, each activation has strengthened the project, deepened relationships and prepared our field teams and centres for implementation.

Now, all roads lead to Tshwane on 14 September 2026 for the final NutriTrack stakeholder activation.

The activation journey may be approaching its finish line, but the real work is only beginning: going into our centres, measuring, learning, identifying nutritional risks, supporting intervention and building the evidence that will help us better understand the difference nutrition is making in the lives of children.
