From Vision to Reality: NutriTrack Launches in Steelpoort

After months of planning and collaboration, NutriTrack, a partnership between Soul Food and the University of Pretoria, has officially entered its implementation phase.

The successful Steelpoort Stakeholder Activation Workshop, held on 4 August 2026, marked the beginning of a pioneering pilot programme aimed at combating child malnutrition and stunting through evidence-based nutrition screening, early intervention, and community partnerships.

More than 40 stakeholders, including government departments, Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, community leaders, researchers, and implementation partners, came together to launch the project and reaffirm a shared commitment to improving children’s nutritional wellbeing.

Using innovative digital technology, trained fieldworkers will collect real-time nutritional data to identify children at risk, enabling timely interventions and strengthening community nutrition programmes.

NutriTrack demonstrates what is possible when research, government, communities, and the private sector work together. We gratefully acknowledge the support of the University of Pretoria, ISUZU Motors South Africa, the Departments of Basic Education, Health and Social Development, participating ECD centres, community leaders, and our dedicated NutriTrack fieldworkers.

Following the successful Steelpoort activation, the project will now expand to the Northern Cape, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and Gauteng, bringing us one step closer to healthier futures for South Africa’s children.
