Cape Town Ready to Measure, Learn and Act

The NutriTrack journey reached another important milestone on 31 August 2026, with the successful Cape Town activation, officially kicking off the project’s coastal and Garden Route rollout.

All eight participating NutriTrack centres in the Cape Town region were represented, bringing together centre leaders, the Soul Food team and our partners from the University of Pretoria for a practical day of learning, preparation and shared purpose.

Turning Knowledge into Action

Dr Edith led an engaging presentation on the NutriTrack project and the importance of monitoring children’s nutritional growth. The programme moved from theory into practice through hands-on anthropometric measurement demonstrations, including the correct techniques for measuring children accurately and consistently.

The practical sessions were particularly valuable. Participants had the opportunity to see the measuring equipment in use and understand that NutriTrack is not simply about collecting numbers — it is about using reliable information to identify nutritional risk earlier, guide appropriate interventions and better understand the impact of the nutrition we provide.

The enthusiasm in the room reflected an important shift: our participating centres are no longer only preparing for NutriTrack — they are ready to implement it.

A Special Start to the Coastal Journey

The Cape Town activation was made even more significant by the presence of Soul Provider Trust (Soul Food) Founder and CEO, who joined the team to mark the beginning of the coastal and Garden Route leg of the NutriTrack rollout.

His participation reinforced the importance of NutriTrack to Soul Food’s broader mission. As we continue providing meals to children, we are strengthening our ability to move beyond counting meals served towards measuring, learning and demonstrating nutritional impact.

Ready to Hit the Ground Running

With the activation complete, the eight Cape Town centres and the Soul Food NutriTrack fieldworker are ready to begin implementation on the ground.

The focus now shifts to baseline assessments and working closely with each participating centre as NutriTrack begins generating the evidence that will help us better understand the children we serve and respond where additional nutritional support may be required.

Cape Town also marks the beginning of the next chapter of the rollout as the NutriTrack team continues through the coastal and Garden Route activations.
