This week brought wonderful news from Mimiz Creche — and we could not be more proud to share it with our Soul Food family.
For two years, Nolubabalo Sipumezo — known lovingly as Mimi — has been running her SmartStart early learning centre out of a humble wooden structure, pouring her heart into giving the children of her community the best possible start in life. All the while, she carried a quiet dream: a proper, permanent building where her kids would be warm, safe, and ready to learn.
Today, that dream is a reality. Mimiz Creche has a brand-new brick building — and the story of how it got there is one that will warm your heart.
IN MIMI’S OWN WORDS
“Because of the support we received through Soul Food, I was able to save on groceries. I took that money and used it to buy materials — and brick by brick, it came together into a complete Creche.”
What a testimony! Mimi didn’t wait for someone to hand her a building. She took every Rand saved through generosity — groceries, POWA Products, supplies — and quietly redirected it towards mortar and bricks. Month after month.
The result? A proper classroom with plastered walls, real windows decorated with the children’s letters and drawings, and a front door that opens wide enough for every little one to walk in with dignity. The children who once sat on the floor of a wooden shack now learn in a space that says: you matter, and your future matters too.
To our Soul Food community — this is your impact. Every contribution you have made, every POWA Pack and grocery donation, played a real role in freeing up the resources that made this possible. You didn’t just feed children this week. Over two years, you helped build them a school.
