Our hearts are heavy as we share the story of the recent tragedies in Plettenberg Bay. On April 13th, the community was shaken by the devastating news of a fire that completely destroyed eight homes, displacing eight families. Fortunately, the families are safe and have found shelter at the New Horizon Community Centre.
In the midst of this distressing event, the Soul Food Bitou Emergency Response Centre (ERC) quickly mobilised to offer support. Our team provided POWA Packs, blankets to help ease the shock for the displaced families, ensuring they received nutritious meals during this difficult time.

Sadly, on April 14th, a second fire took the life of a 48-year-old man, leaving the community devastated. While we mourn his loss, we are incredibly grateful for the swift action of the local neighbourhood, who worked together to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding homes.
During this difficult time, the municipal mayor’s office has been in attendance to assess the immediate needs of those affected, including necessities such as nappies and school uniforms.
We send our deepest condolences to Simphiwe’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families displaced by these fires. We stand by the Plettenberg Bay community, offering our continued support as we work together to restore hope and healing.
