Sedibeng Activated: NutriTrack Moves from Learning to Action

Strong participation, practical learning and a shared commitment to improving child nutrition

On 28 August 2026, Soul Food successfully concluded the Sedibeng NutriTrack Activation, bringing together participating centres, representatives from all Gauteng branches, our Distribution Centre team and the University of Pretoria.

A Strong Sedibeng Start

The excellent attendance and active participation reflected a shared commitment to strengthening how we monitor and respond to the nutritional wellbeing of young children.

Centre representatives engaged enthusiastically throughout the activation, contributing questions, sharing experiences and participating fully in the practical training.

Learning by Doing

A highlight of the activation was the hands-on anthropometric measurement session led by Marion, a dietitian from the University of Pretoria.

Participants received practical guidance on the correct use of measurement equipment and the importance of capturing accurate and consistent information, including a child’s weight, length or height, and mid-upper arm circumference.

The practical session brought NutriTrack to life. Centre representatives, fieldworkers and Soul Food team members worked through the measurement process together, building the confidence and skills required to support reliable baseline, midline and endline assessments.

One Gauteng Team

The activation also provided an important opportunity for organisational alignment.

Representatives from all Soul Food’s Gauteng branches participated alongside the Distribution Centre team, strengthening their shared understanding of NutriTrack and the role that each team plays in supporting successful implementation.

Why NutriTrack Matters

NutriTrack is about more than collecting measurements. It helps Soul Food and its partners to:

• Better understand the nutritional wellbeing of participating children;
• Identify potential nutritional concerns earlier;
• Support appropriate follow-up and referrals;
• Track changes over time; and
• Build credible evidence of the difference consistent nutritional support can make.

This approach strengthens our ability to move beyond reporting how much food has been distributed towards understanding the impact of that nutrition on children’s growth and wellbeing.

Sedibeng Done—Next Stop: The Cape

With the Sedibeng activation complete, implementation can now move forward at participating centres.

Our sincere appreciation goes to the University of Pretoria, every participating centre, our Gauteng branch teams, fieldworkers and Distribution Centre colleagues for making the activation practical, energetic and purposeful.

Sedibeng is done. Next stop: Cape Town, George and Gqeberha, as the NutriTrack activation journey continues across the Western and Eastern Cape.

Together, we are moving from providing nutrition to understanding its impact—one child, one centre and one community at a time.
