Heavy rain and flooding along the Garden Route has left Esra Isaacs, the Soul Food Manager in George, with a mountain to climb (or a river to swim) in the last few days. Queues of people whose houses are knee deep in water were found desperately searching for food to feed their families. Above is the current situation at PPC Calvary Church’s soup kitchen in Rosemore, George.

The need is enormous. Soul Food serves the kids first and afterwards the adults are given whatever is left over. The Soul Food Emergency Response Centre in Plettenberg Bay is on standby and is watching the situation very closely. Food relief can be mobilised within a couple of hours if need be.
