Managing Trustee: The Soul Provider Trust, City of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa
A group of elderly residents in Sharpeville, Soweto recently got together, determined to improve their lot in life. After a animated brainstorm, they decided to ask the municipality to let them use some underutilized space to start a little farm. To their surprise the municipality gave them nine hectares (90 000sq metres) for a period of 10 years.
This came to the attention of Soul Food’s manager in Sedibeng, Kenny Mabunda who donated a large case of Soul Seed kits. Each kit has the capacity to deliver 480 meals (after allowing for a 40% write-off due to insects, birds and inclement weather).
We will watch this space with great interest and help whenever we can.
